Victoria and Alfred Hotel

This morning you will be picked up from your hotel for a half-day Cape Town City tour. No visit to Cape Town is complete without a tour of the "Mother City". Sense the depth of history as you drive past Parliament Buildings, City Hall and the Slave Lodge before stopping for a short visit of the Castle of Good Hope (optional), originally built as a maritime replenishment station and now the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa! Alternatively, we walk around the Grand Parade square which has its own historical significance. We hear of the brief history of District Six en-route to a visit at the Company Gardens where we walk through the landscaped gardens. Learn more about the history of the Bo-Kaap and its people as we move up the cobblestoned hills to the Malay Quarter, and marvel at the ice-cream colours of the quaint Bo-Kaap homes. Trace the moves of a professional diamond cutter as he creates every girl's dream stone with a visit to a diamond cutting factory. After learning more about the history of diamonds and gold in South Africa, we drive past the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town Stadium, Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay as we make our way to Table Mountain where you have the option of either admiring the views from the lower cable station or purchasing a ticket (for own account) to reach the summit. After delighting in this photo opportunity, return to the hotel or stay on top of the mountain and find your own way back to your hotel.

A superb day dedicated to celebrating the glorious grape, the exceptional winelands region, and the heavenly scenery! The areas rich with history, and can't help but feel it as move through the region to experience a wine cellar tour and tasting, where you'll learn all about the process of winemaking, from grape to goblet. Then you visit the exquisite little town of Franschhoek, pass by the impressive Huguenot Monument, and in a town with a reputation for gourmet fare. Wind your way to the heady heights of the Helshoogte Mountain Pass to meet the charming university town of Stellenbosch on the other side. Stroll through this little town, absorbing the quaintness, and sneaking into the odd shop or two (on Sundays not all galleries and shops are open)! Enjoy a wine tasting at two different wine estates where you'll be able to purchase your favourite wine to take back home!

Cruise along Millionaire's Paradise from Clifton to Camps Bay and on to Llandudno before an up-close-and-personal Seal Island cruise. Wind along Chapman's Peak Drive with lunch (own account) at Cape of Good Hope Section of the Table Mountain National Park before meandering back along the coast, visiting Simon's Town and ending your day at the penguin colony at Boulder's Beach where you get to watch these entertaining, waddling characters. Your experience highlights: Seal Island Cruise (optional and for own account) - Chapman's Peak Drive - Cape Point - Simon's Town Penguin Colony at Boulder's Beach.

Depart from Cape Town Station. Trundle through the winelands of the Western Cape towards Worcester. Tea in the lounge and observation cars. Dinner is served in the dining cars. The train climbs ±750m up the face of the escarpment. Around midnight, the train arrives at the first of four tunnels on the pass. The last tunnel is 13.5km long so guests are to be careful if walking through the train.

The golden age of luxury train travel has been renewed in the heart of the African bush. These beautifully restored trains consist of up to 20 coaches that can be drawn by steam, diesel or electric locomotives operating at various stages of the journey. The sleeping cars as well as the observation and dining cars have been splendidly refurbished in the style of the period but with an eye for modern comfort. The train carries a maximum of 72 passengers who are attended by highly motivated members of staff, and provides a cuisine of superb standard. Rovos Rail offers unique rail safaris through some of the most spectacular scenery in Africa.

Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 10:00. Disembark at Matjiesfontein for an opportunity to stroll through the historic village. Of special interest is the museum on the platform and a collection of historic cars and railway carriages to the right of the Lord Milner Hotel. The train travels through the Karoo, a vast semi-desert region that was once an enormous inland sea. Over millions of years, volcanic matter was ground down and deposited as silt upon the seabed to form what geologists call the Karoo system. Lunch is served in the dining cars. Tea in the lounge and observation cars. Dinner is served in the dining cars. Overnight on board.

Today you will enjoy a Half Day Johannesburg City Tour. Set off for Constitution Hill, home of South Africa's architectural marvel, the Constitutional Court and site of Johannesburg's Old Fort Prison (closed Sundays). Explore the inner city of Johannesburg and the influence the discovery of gold brought to this city and indeed South Africa. Proceed for a visit to the Top of Africa, at the 223m high Carlton Centre, Africa's tallest building with magnificent views particularly on a clear day where guests can see as far as the capital city of Pretoria and will be amazed at the number of trees that can be seen, easily one of the largest urban forests in the world. You will then visit and explore the Maboneng Precinct, a wonderful example of urban regeneration on the eastside of Johannesburg CBD which is now home to several independent retail, restaurant, art and entertainment venues, fresh and unique lifestyle offerings of this new exciting development.
